BASSETERRE, St. Kitts (September 7, 2010) – Adventure at Brimstone Hill, the first book in the popular Caribbean Adventure Series is now available on Audio CD, thanks to the generosity of the Matheson Trust Fund of St. Kitts & Nevis.
Author of the series Carol Ottley-Mitchell expressed great pride in the support being provided by the organization and the St. Kitts & Nevis community. “As a writer, I often have moments of doubt about whether my books are achieving my aim of encouraging young people to read. Receiving this grant, this show of support, really encourages me to keep writing. It says loudly and clearly that my contribution is valuable.”
The trust, which was launched on August 24, 2002, was established to memorialize the life, works and achievements of Mr. D. Lloyd Matheson CBE, late President Emeritus and former President (1967-1989) of the Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park Society. Funds collected are used to assist endeavours in the area of education, historical research and publication.
This particular award falls under one of the main areas of activity of the trust, namely the promotion of research, documentation, writing and publishing in history, education and culture as they pertain to St. Kitts and Nevis.
Adventure at Brimstone Hill tells the story of three children in St. Kitts who travel into the past and have an adventure at the Brimstone Hill Fortress. The book takes its young readers on an exciting introduction to actual events and characters in 17th Century St. Kitts. It entertains while educating about St. Kitts’ history and culture.
Adventure at Brimstone Hill Audio CD was narrated by On Air personality Dawn P. Mills and recorded at the studios of radio station WinnFM on St. Kitts, who generously donated the studio time. The CDs are available at Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park, Beauty Essentials in the TDC Mall, Harper’s Office Depot and other leading book stores in the Federation.
